Akel is a third year graduate student working on Quantum Characterization, Verification, and Validation (QCVV) protocols, such as Randomized Compiling. He is a member of the Applied Science & Technology (AS&T) graduate group, the AS&T student representative within the UC Berkeley Graduate Assembly, and the Siddiqi group representative within the Kavli Energy NanoScience Institute. Previously, Akel graduated from the University of Washington with a B.S. in Physics and Astronomy, and a B.A. in Spanish. Prior to starting graduate school, Akel worked at Eagle Harbor Technologies, a small startup in Seattle, at the Matter in Extreme Conditions laboratory at SLAC, and on Project Loon at GoogleX. In his free time, Akel enjoys hiking, backpacking, and playing soccer.
